The Hollyhock Festival is always the last Saturday in July. The lovely Hollyhock is the official flower for the Town of Saguache. Alcea rosea, Hollyhock, was one of the earliest plants brought to the New World. Originally from Asia, the plant’s hardiness, drought tolerance, and soil adaptability supported its cultivation throughout the Middle East, Europe, and North American Continent. Hollyhock plants growing in our southwestern region are probably descendants of the first seeds planted in the late 1800’s when the area became settled.
In 2021, The Chamber hosted the initial combined Arts Walk & Hollyhock Festival. It was so warmly welcomed that the Chamber has decided to keep it as a combined event. The last Saturday in July will occur on July 27, 2024. This year will mark the 13th Annual Hollyhock Festival and the 15th Annual Arts Walk. The hours for this event will be 10AM until 3PM. Additional information will be shared as plans are finalized. On our website (www.saguachechamber.org), you will find contact information for the lead of the Hollyhock Festival/Carla Quintana along with information to reach Sarah Krantz/lead for the Arts Walk. This information is located under the About Us tab then Boards and Committees. You can also check our Facebook page for details as the event draws near.
Our Hollyhock Seed Cards are available through the Chamber online store. Featured on the 2024 card will be the Art Winner for 2023, Lupe Hernandez. Plants should be available for purchase. Plan to view entries in the Art Contest during the event.
Enjoy a stroll around the Town of Saguache to not only see all the different venues and the artists in conjunction with the Arts Walk, but also to tour the gardens and experience all the opportunities offered by our unique shops. Plan to stay and enjoy a movie here in Saguache.
